Caring for Satsuma Trees in Cold Weather

It is a good idea to plant your satsuma trees on the south or southeast side of your home to ensure it is protected from the weather. Once the tree is acclimated to the cooler temperatures, it will be able to tolerate temperatures that are as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also protect a younger satsuma tree from problems caused by frost by insulating the trunk with plant material or cardboard. Make sure to keep the soil beneath the tree bare and moist, as well.

Planting a Satsuma Tree

When planting a satsuma tree, there are a few things you need to make sure you do. For example, you should avoid placing it in ay low-lying areas of the landscape. Put the tree in a hole that is approximately as deep and as wide as the root ball, and then fill it about half of the way with soil. Add water to settle the soil around the roots.

To make sure the root ball does not get dried out, you should ensure it is covered with at least an inch of soil to ground level. Water your newly planted tree every few days for the initial two weeks, and then every 10 days for the following two months.
